XU BINSHI

Xu Binshi, born in Harbin City, Hei Longjiang Province in March of 1931, is a specialist and one of the founders of the equipment repairing surface engineering and remanufacturing engineering. He graduated from Department of Manufacture and Welding Engineering, Harbin Institute of Technology in 1954. And then he became a teacher of the Military Engineering College of PLA in Harbin, founded by General Chen Geng in 1953. Subsequently he assumed the office of vicedirector, director and vicepresident in Academy of Armored Force Engineering. In 1995, he was elected the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. Presently he is the director of National Key Laboratory for Remanufacturing located in Academy of Armored Force Engineering.
Academician Xu systematically developed the electronic brush plating technology and equipment, broke through the technology difficulty of the fieldrepairing big equipment. He made use of the plasma spraying technology to solve the significant difficult problem to repair the wear and fatigue on the thinwall components in tanks and heavy load vehicles. After ten years hard work, he, along with his colleagues, developed successfully the tank track shoe materials, mild manganese carbon steel ZGMn8CrMo, with the international leading level, and its service time is three times than the other domestic productions and two times than the other foreign productions; In domestic, he is the first man who develops the electric arc spraying technology to prevent the largescale ships steel structure without corrosion, takes positively the initiative to construct the surface engineering discipline, and subsequently proposes and constructs the remanufacturing engineering discipline. In 2003, the National Key Laboratory for Remanufacturing was built up under his effort.
From the later stage of 1970s to now, Academician Xu has been in charge of more than 40 national and army research projects, including the national“973”and“863”projects, national natural science fundation, government cooperation projects, and CAE consultative projects. He has gotten 5 National Science and Technology Prizes (first, second, third class), 1 National Technical Innovation Prize (secondclass), 11 Army Science and Technology Prizes (first, secondclass). He has published 17 monographs, and more than 400 papers, more than 100 papers were cited by three citation (SCI, EI, ISTP).He also got 11 National Invention Patents.
Due to the outstanding contribution and scientific accomplishments in the research area, academician Xu has won the prizes of Guanghua Science & Technology Engineering,Science & Technology achievements,China Welding Lifetime Achievements, and Outstanding Scholarship Achievement, which awarded respectively by Chinese Academy Of Engineering, Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (and its Welding Branch Association), International Heat Treatment and Surface Engineering Association.
