LANG JINGHE

Lang Jinghe (1940-), born in Jilin Province, professor and tutor for doctoral students in the OB & GYN department, Union Medical College Hospital, Peking Union Medical College, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences; chairman of OB & GYN societies, Chinese Medical Association; editor-in-chief for Chinese journal of Obstetricsand gynecology; chairman for Chinese Gynecological Endoscopy Society; vice-president for Chinese Scientific Writers Association.
Ever since his graduation from Bethune Medical College in 1964, Prof. Lang has been working in the OB & GYN department in Union Medical College Hospital, as a residence, an attending physician, associate professor, and then a professor. And in 1984 and 1985 respectively, Prof. Lang managed to work abroad with success in Norwegian Radium Hospital and Civic Hospital, University of Ottawa in Canada as a visiting scholar, majored in Gynecological Oncology. From 1986 to 1993, Prof. Lang assumed the office of the vice-dean of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, and from then on as director in the OB & GYN department.
Prof. Lang began his study on the clinical aspects of ovary cancer ever since the 1970s. He had uncovered the metastasis characteristics of ovary cancer thereafter, and had introduced as well as popularized the Cytoreductive Surgery. In the 1990s, Prof. Lang carried out several basic studies on the etiology, biological behavior and therapeutics of ovary cancer, and had accordingly be awarded 3 Prizes for Development in Science issued either on the national bases or by the Ministry of Public Health, P.R. China. During recent few years, Prof. Lang oriented his research towards the pathogenesis of endometriosis, and has then brought forward two theories: “Eutopic Endometrium Determination”and “Uprooting Therapy,” winning the 1stPrize for Development in Science, Beijing, 2004. In the meantime, Prof. Lang also carried through basic and clinical studies on Female Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, Stress Incontinence and of Pelvic Organs Prolapse, during which process Prof. Lang put forward a “Hammock Theory”and raised new thoughts on HRT that made him the runner-up for Chinese Medical Prize. Moreover, Prof. Lang played a leading role in the development of gynecological endoscopy, the prevention of cervical lesions and the screening for cervical cancer as well, and has thus promoted the advancement in OB & GYN, which contributes greatly to the safeguarding of womens health.
