ZHANG JIANCHUN

Zhang Jianchun, a specialist in polymer materials, was born in Ruicheng County of Shanxi Province in April of 1958. graduated from Polymer Department of Beijing University of Chemical Technology, He worked in 3530 factory of the General Logistic Department of PLA during 1982-1984, He graduated from Textile Technology Department of Northwest Institute of Textile Science and Technology as a master in 1987, and graduated from Material Department of Sichuan University as a doctor in 1999. He visited Texas State University and University of Georgia as a visiting professor during 2002-2004. He worked in the Quartermaster Research Institute of the General Logistics Department of PLA as an engineer and then chief engineer from 1987 until now. As the first accomplisher, he got one first and second prize of the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award respectively, one second prize of the State Technological Invention Award. He also achieved the first and second prize of Military Scientific and Technological Progress Award seven times respectively. He published five monographs and more than 100 academic papers, and was patented with eight invention patents.
The camouflage dyes and fabric series he developed have improved the camouflage and protective abilities of the combat soldiers, the multivariance multitextured polyester filaments and related woollike fabrics he developed have improved the science and technological levels of the natural fiber simulating abilities of our country, the biaxially stretched PTFE microporous membrane and its breathable and waterproof laminated fabrics he developed have broken the monopolization in this area by the western developed countries; the shoes materials and processing machinery he invented have improved the international competition ability in shoe manufacturing of our country, and the medical protective garment with breathability against SARS virus he developed during 2003 was worn by the medical staff in several hospitals in China, such as Xiaotangshan hospital without another single infection of medical personnel with SARS.
Because of his outstanding academic achievements and upstanding ethics and morals, he was awarded a Merit Citation, First Class, issued by the military order which was signed by the chairman of the Central Military Commission in 2004.
