LI HONGZHI

Li Hongzhi, a specialist in ballistics, was born in May 1937 in Beijing.He is a professor of Nanjing University of Science and Technology(NUST).
Prof. Li graduated from the Military Engineering Institute in 1961 and since then has been teaching and doing research at East China Institute of Technology, which now is re-named as NUST, experienced as teaching assistant, lecture, associate professor (1981), professor (1983), supervisor for PhD students (1985). In 1994 he was elected the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE).
In 1985 he was the director of the Ballistics Institute and a chief member of Ballistics Committee of China Ordnance Society. From 1988 to 2000, he was the president of NUST. And now he is the director of State Key Laboratory of Transient Physics and editor-in-chief of Journal of Ballistics  and  Journal of NUST.
Working on national defense science and technology for more than 40 years, Prof.Li has committed to the creative study of both the fundamental theory and the practical application of gasdynamics and ballistics.He advocated and established the new disciplines of intermadiate ballistics and hypervelocity electrothermal launch technology, extended research in dynamics of explosion hazards and in testing technology of transient flow field.
Prof. Li has fulfilled over 30 research projects. He was awarded 17 scientific and technical prizes by the State and the province. He has over 60 papers published and compiled 5 books.  He has also supervised  over 40 postgraduate students to gain their Masters or PhDs.
