OUYANG PINGKAI

Prof. Ouyang Pingkai, a Bio-Chemical engineering expert, was born in August 1945 in Xiangtan City, Hunan Province. He graduated from Department of Chemical Engineering of Tsinghua University and obtained his Master of Engineering Degree in 1981. He started the bio-chemical engineering research at Nanjing University of Technology in 1983. He went to continue his study of bio-chemical engineering at Waterloo University, Canada and Purdue University, U.S.A. as a senior visiting scholar from 1985 to 1987. He was elected the academician of CAE (Chinese Academy of Engineering) in the year of 2001. Now he acts as the chair scientist in Industrial Catabolism of “973 Project” and the group leader in “Biological Hi-Technology and Green Industrialization” of National Technological Medium-Long Term 13 Topics.
As a pioneer in research and higher education of Biochemical Engineering in China, Prof. Ouyang Pingkai established the National Key Lab of Industrial Bio-Technology, set up the Master Program, Ph. D. Program and Post-Doctor Research Station of bio-chemical engineering and founded the National Biochemical Engineering Technology Research Center at Nanjing University of Technology.
Professor Ouyang Pingkai originally presented the combinational method to construct and optimize bioprocess, such as the combination of bioreactions, combination of bioreaction and biomembrane, combination of bioreaction and separation. By applying this method, the products of FDP, L-Alanine, L-Phenylalanine, L-malic acid in China have achieved the highest level in the world. He has invented serials of high-efficiency bioreactor including air-lift bioreactor and bio separation apparatus. These products have been produced by many manufactures. Now the machines he invented have been popularly applied in more than 10 provinces and promoted the production and development in biochemical technology in China.
Prof. Ouyang Pingkai is famous leading scientist in Chinese Biochemical Engineering field. He has published more than 100 scientific papers and 2 books from 1990s. He has also educated more than 70 Master degree and Ph. D degree candidates. He has won 7 Research Achievement Prizes, 3 Education Achievement Prizes and 10 Excellent Teaching Staff prizes.
