Xue Qunji

AWARDEE OF TECHNOLOGICAL  SCIENCES PRIZE

XUE QUNJI

Xue Qunji,  a material chemist,  was born in Nov. 1942 in Yinan County of  Shandong  Province. He is now a research professor and currently the director of Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He graduated from the Department of Chemistry, Shandong University in 1965, and then studied as a Master Candidate at Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics from 1965 to 1967,since then, he has worked in this institute. From 1980 to 1982 he was a visiting scholar at the University of Michigan, USA. He was elected the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1997. His major research fields are material chemistry and special lubricating materials.
For many years, Professor Xue has committed to the creative study of both the fundamental theory and the practical application of tribological materials. His research projects, concerning state key projects and hi-tech requirements as well as industries, have produced remarkable economic and social benefits.
The research activities of professor Xue and his co-workers have taken an advanced place in the world tribo-chemistry area. Lots of achievements contributed by professor Xue's group, the phase transformation wear mechanism of TCP ceramics, the surface frictional chemistry of polymeric composites, the electronic effects of nitrogen-containing and rare earth compounds lubricating additives, the plane molecule bearing hypothesis of LB and SAM thin lubricating films and the mechanism of nano-particles lubricating oil additives have been positively evaluated by experts in tribology field.
Professor Xue has contribute more than 10 invited lectures at tribology conferences at home and abroad, including a speech about tribo-chemistry of ceramics at Goldan Conference in 1994. Xue is the author or co-author of 400 scientific papers and 3 books, also has 19 Chinese Invention Patents. He was awarded 23 scientific and technical prizes by State and Province or Chinese Academy of Sciences to recognize his contributions.
Professor Xue  has been honored the titles of State Level Mid-aged and Young Experts with Outstanding Contribution, and State Advanced Workers by Chinese State Council in 1992 and 2000.
