ZHOU GUOTAI

Zhou Guotai, Expert in body armor, was born on August 30, 1949, in Zhenlai County, Jilin Province (origin in Wendeng County, Shandong Province). Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (1999); Chief of the Institute of Quartermaster Equipment of GLD of PLA (1997- ); Vice Chief, General Engineer and Senior Engineer of the IQE of GLD of PLA (1992-1997); Director and Vice Director of the Experiment and Initial Manufacture Unit of the IQE of GLD of PLA (1988-1992); Engineer, Assistant Engineer and Technician of the Clothing and Apparel Unit of the IQE of GLD of PLA (1976-1988); Graduated from Chemical Department of ZhongShan University in 1976 while Majored in macromolecule. Joined the Army in Oct. 1968.
Pursue the research of body armor and functional clothes for military and civil use; make achievements in bulletproof equipment, special protective clothes and keep-warming material. In the field of body armor equipment, Preside in the development of bulletproof vest and helmet with the material of Kevlar enhanced complex, which being equipped in military and police field and other law enforcement agencies, solve the crux of ergonomic design of helmet form, the material of Kevlar enhanced complex, complex forming of bulletproof structure and composite of resin matrix, which reach the international advanced level. Explore the theory of electrostatic protection, research and technical exploit of special protective clothes, which being applied to the series of protective clothes of anti-electrostatic, oil-proof, waterproof and flame-retardancy, while being equipped in several giant oil field over the country, widely used in branches of petrochemicals, metallurgy, and forestry. Preside in the research of keep-warming material of bedding and clothing, keep-warming theory and operative technology, participate in the research and development of hot-melt adhesive flake and wind-proof, water-proof, moisture-penetrate laminate fabric (PTFE), which being widely applied to BDU, anti-cold suit, coverall of South Pole and sport suit. Establish the “Soldier System Center", Research Center of Clothing Ergonomics and V50 Ballistic Testing Laboratory for Personal Bulletproof Equipment, systematically develop the research of Clothing Ergonomics, and implement the integration of estimation of bulletproof equipment testing with international standard.
