AWARDEE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES AND MATERIA MEDICA PRIZE

WANG ZENGWEI

Professor Wang Zengwei, one of the most famous cardiovascular surgeons, was born in Jiangsu Province in January, 1922. Since graduated from Medical College of Nanjing University in 1951, he became a surgeon and the vice chief of thoracic surgery, and promoted to the chief of cardiovascular surgery department, director of cardiovascular medical and surgery institute in general hospital of Shenyang military district. He has supervised eight doctors and six masters of medical science as a pluralistic professor of the Second Military Medical University and the Forth Military Medical University of PLA. He had been selected as a member of Chinese Medical Association in Liaoning Province and Shenyang City, member of Chinese Cardiothoracic Surgery Association, member of Science and Technology Association of PLA, president of Cardiothoracic Surgery Association of PLA.
Wang Zengwei has got large achievement in cardiovascular surgery, especially in surgical management of complex congenital heart disease and cardiac arrhythmias. He had performed more than ten kinds of cardiovascular surgical operation first in China, which including: 1.surgical repair of TOF with absence of unilateral pulmonary artery or unilateral pulmonary atresia by a valved conduit from right ventricle to pulmonary artery. 2.surgical repair of complete atrioventricular defect with TOF. 3. classical Fontan operation treating single ventricle, mitral and tricuspid atresia. 4. modified Fontan operation with extra cardiac conduit. 5. total cavopulmonary connection operation. 6. surgical correction of pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum. 7. surgical correction of supracardiac total anomalous pulmonary vein connection. 8. surgical correction of Ebstein anomaly. 9. surgical correction of double outlet right ventricle. 10. surgical correction of complete transposition of great arteries with intracardiac tunnel and extra cardiac conduit. 11. surgical treatment  of preexitation syndrome. 12. modified Maze operation. He has been undergone 12 044 cases of cardiac operation during last 26 years.
Wang Zengwei has published more than 150 scientific papers and edited 11 books such as Cardiacvascular Surgery. He has won 18 scientific awards including First Prize of National S & T Progress and First Prize of PLA S & T Progress.
