AWARDEE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES AND MATERIA MEDICA PRIZE

HUANG ZHIQIANG

Huang Zhiqiang, a surgery scientist, an expert of Hepatobiliary Surgery, and an academician of China's Engineering Institute, born in Xinhui County, Guangdong Province in 1922, worked at Chongqing National Hospital after he graduated from the former Zhong Zheng Medical College in 1944. Now, he engaged himself in The General Hospital of PLA and Military Postgraduate Medical College as the director Doctor, first-grade Professor, tutor of MD Ph.D, master of General Surgical Institute, Chairman of Degree-Appraisal Committee. Meanwhile he also acts as a standing commissioner of Surgery Organization of Chinese Medical Association, an honorary commissioner of Medical Science Committee, P.L.A., a director of China Medical Fund Committee, the chief-in-general editor of Chinese Edition of U.S.A. magazine JAMA , an associator of International Surgical Academy. Furthermore, he is a winner of Great Contribution Award for Professional Technology in P.L.A., one of the founders of hepatobiliary surgery in China, an initiator of Biliary Tract Surgery Organization in Chinese Medical Association.
In 1957, he first treated hepatic lithiasis by adopting the liver lobectomy in Chongqing Xinan Hospital, and initiated new method of curing biliary tract disease at usage of liver surgery technology. In 1962, he first systematically dissertated hepatic lithiasis which is popular in China, and developed hepatobiliary surgical field from former limitation of gallbladder stone and subsequency symptom. Subsequently he  put forward and perfected a series of treatment principle and surgical technology of   curing intrahepatic and hiliar biliary duct obstructive diseases, which comprised of  hepatobiliary surgery theory and practice system indicating the disease characteristics in our country and being at leading level of the world. In 1963, he created the first hepatobiliary surgery specialty, which centered in medical, teaching and scientific research, in China.
He actively advocated the importance of combination the basic research with clinic practice, and has performed series of most complicated surgical operation and made great contribution to the development of surgical science.
He compiled the first edition of Primary Lithiasis and Related Questions, Operational Surgery, Surgery of Biliary Duct, Liver Surgery. And he also wrote Liver Operative Surgery, Huang Zhiqiang Operative Surgery of Biliary Tract,  Huang Zhiqiang Surgery of Biliary Tract，etc. 16 masterpieces, which brought about in-depth influence world wide in the field of surgical science. He pursues his study with precise and democratic working style, and is always standing at the foreland of clinic medical practice with great innovation. He has been a model of surgeons in China.
