WU CHANGXIN

Professor Wu Changxin, a geneticist and breeder in animals and poultry, was born in Nov. 1935 in Shengxian, Zhejiang Province, and his original family home is Yinxian, Zhejiang Province. He graduated from the Department of Animal Science, Beijing Agricultural University in 1957, and studied at Edinburgh University in Britain for advanced studies in Animal Genetics and Breeding from 1979 to 1981. He has been the associate professor (1983), professor (1988), dean of the Department of Animal Science (1983-1987), and dean of the College of Animal Science and Technology (1993- ) after returned from abroad. Now he is the president of Chinese Association of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, the president of China Horse Industry Association, the vice president of Genetics Society of China, the president of Chinese branch of the World Poultry Science Association, the member of Permanent International Committee of World Congress on Genetics Applied to livestock Production; he is taking charge of the executive co-editor of Science in China, Ser.C, vice editor of ACTA Genetica Sinica, Hereditas and Chinese Journal of Animal Science; and he is also the collector of the appraisal group of the Academic Degree Commission of the State Council in animal science, the vice chairman of the Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Education, the member of the Science and Technology standing Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture, the leader of the expert appraisal group in animal production for the State award from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the member  of the expert consultative group of the branch of life science of the Committee of the State Natural Science Funds, the consultant of the People's Government of Beijing. He was elected the academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1995.  
Wu Changxin has been engaging in studies of genetic theory and practice of breeding in animals and poultry for more than 40 years, his work has been awarded to 8 national prizes and 6 provincial or ministerial prizes. His main works and contributions are as follows: “The Theory and the Technique for Conserving the Genetic Resources in Domestic Animals and Poultry", been awarded  the second State prize of science and technology in 2001(the first director); “The Selection and Breeding of Small Type Layer with High Feed Efficiency", been awarded the second state prize of science and technology in 1999 (the first director); “The Theory and the Practice of the Breeding of Synthetic Line for Layer", been awarded  the second prize of science and technology from the Ministry of Agriculture in 1992 (the first director).
