LI ZHENQI

Li Zhenqi, professor of Northwest Sci-Tech University of Agriculture and Forestry, is a famous plant pathologist and specialist in wheat rust. He was born in June 1935,  graduated from Northwestern Agricultural College in 1949, then worked in this college. In fifty years he studied in Moscow Agricultural University of USSR and in eighty years he worked as adjunct professor of Mengtana State University in America. Since 1986 he has worked as professor and tutor of Doctor's postgraduate. In 1991 he obtained the honor of Shaanxi Provincial Outstanding Specialist. In 1997 he was elected  the Academician of CAE. He concurrently works as follows: 1) The head of Plant Protection Department. 2) The director of the plant pathology institute. 3) The vice-chairman of the Chinese Society for Plant Pathology. 4) The chairman of Special Committee of Breeding for Resistance to Plant Disease; 5) the member of Appraisal Group of Science Degree Committee in the State Council; 6) the member of Standing Committee of Science in Northwest Sci-Tech University of Agriculture and Forestry.
He mainly engaged in teaching plant pathology and plant immunology. He is the first man who systematically to teach the course of plant immunology in China. He conducted 36 of MS postgraduates and Ph.D. postgraduates, two posts Doctoral fellow and 11 teachers to engage in advanced studies. He directed to build the first plant pathological course point in Northwest China, and he is the specialist in the seat of honor.
Since 1949 he has mainly engaged in research on wheat stripe rust and plant immunology. He is one of the main people who laid the foundation in researching on the wheat stripe rust and the plant immunology in China. He did important contribution in the following research fields: 1) the principle of occurrence and development of wheat stripe rust in China, especially in Northwest China. 2) The cause of breakdown of resistance in wheat cultivars. 3) The integrated management method of wheat stripe rust in South Gansu, China. 4) The virulence variation in wheat stripe rust. 5) The rust flora of the Qinling mountain's plant. 6) To build the DNA molecular marker system of wheat stripe rust. He has published more than 130 papers and five monographs and two national textbooks. He obtained one national scientific conference prize and one national natural science foundation prize, and four ministerial and provincial prizes.
