E DONGCHEN

E Dongchen, male,a geodesist and the founder of polar topography.He was born in Guangfeng, Jiangxi Province on 15, July 1939.  He graduated from Wuhan Surveying College in July 1965, majoring in astronomical geodetic survey.  Later he was engaged in research and teaching in a military academy, Wuhan Technical University of Surveying & Mapping, Wuhan University successively.He is a professor and academic advisor for PH.D. He assumed assistant  Secretary of Communist Party in the University. Director, in Chinese Antarctic Center of Surveying and Mapping, Chinese commissary of standing geography team and member of experts committee in International Antarctic Scientific Research Association, standing commissary of China in Antarctic committee of International Hydrology Association, leader of Antarctica and Arctic Scientific Research Association of Hubei Province. He made expedition to the Antarctica and Arctic six times, and acted as vice-captain and assistant commander-in-chief of national expedition, assumed the office of No.2, No.3 term's commissary in National Antarctic Science Association and other leadships. Professor E Dongchen works at scientific research in surveying field. He is the founder of Chinese Surveying Science Research Projects in Antarctic and Arctic Regions, and he is also the leader  in this field. He made expedition to the Antarctica four times and to the Arctic two times since he attended Chinese first Antarctic expedition in 1984, gained second-class merit of National Antarctic Expedition two times. He presided momentous projects of Chinese Polar Region Surveying Research for 18 years.  He finished the first Antarctic map -relief map of Great Wall Station in China, and he is the first person to embed the Chinese surveying sign in arctic pivot. He inaugurated some new research fields with spatial technology such as Global Positioning System and Remote Sensing in polar regions, Antarctic geodynamics, Antarctic Gravitational Field, Environment vicissitude of floeberg relief, sea level's change, Geographical Information System of Antarctic and Arctic on Internet, Surveying-guaranteed in Polar region's expedition, etc.  In China, he is acclaimed as the founder of surveying and Polar Regions research.
