Abstract

Prof. Li Guohua was born in April 1937 in Rushan, Shandong Province. He graduated from the Physics Department of Shandong University in 1961. After graduation, he was dispatched to Qufu Normal University. The important positions he has assumed include: director of Laser Research Institute, president of Physics Engineering College and postgraduate tutor of Optics major at Qufu Normal University; a delegate to the 8th and 9th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; director of China Optics Association; member of the standing committee of Shandong Science and Technology Association; board chairman of Shandong Laser Association; vice editor in chief of Photoelectron Laser; chairman of Shangdong Polarization Engineering and Technology Research Center. The titles he had the honor to win at national level include: national specialist with outstanding contributions; excellent teacher; excellent education worker; advanced scientific and technical worker in colleges and universities. Other titles, such as model worker, were conferred by Shandong government. From 1991 on, he enjoyed special allowance granted by the State Council.
Prof. Li has engaged in the research of polarized physics, polarization devices and optical passive devices. He has managed and undertook 40 projects, such as national key project, national torch project, 863 Project and the project of State Commission of Natural Science Foundation. Among his 38 achievements, there are 28 achievements that fill in the gaps in China and 16 achievements that are first fulfilled on the globe. In recent years, Prof. Li has received 65 awards, including the award of national invention, of national science and technology progress, of national as well as international invention exhibition. He has published 198 technical papers. 136 papers of them are included and quoted by SCI, EI and CSCD. 
Among the 3 categories of polarization devices Prof. Li developed, there are 33 series and more than 700 specifications. These devices were awarded the excellent prize for the high and new technical product of national torch cup in 1989. “Prof. Li's development put an end to the situation that there was no high precise polarization devices in China and we had to rely on imports before 1976, and make our work in this scientific and technical field step into the advanced in the world."
