PAN JINGFU

Abstract

Pan Jingfu, was born in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province in January 1930, was graduated from Electrical Machinery Department of Zhejiang University. From 1955 to 1991,he filled successively the posts of technician, deputy director and concurrently vice chief engineer, research fellow, etc.in 701 Research Institute.  He was elected the academician of Engineering Academy of China in 1955.
Pan Jingfu is a well-known Chinese expert in the fields of warship design, and chief designer of one new type of warship.  He has for a long time devoted himself to the improvement and development of the warships and the associated equipment for our country.  Being an chief designer, he succeeded in designing three types of the first generation warships, which, with their supreme capability of performing the multiple missions at sea, are serving as the capital warships for the Chinese Navy.  He was totally in charge of designing four types of warships for two generations, and each new design made technical breakthrough over the previous one.  The successful development of these warships has fully reflected the capability and standard of China，s shipbuilding industry, and exerted an important influence at home and abroad.  In the process of designing the second generation warships, he persisted in exploring technically advanced overall plan for warships, updating the designing concept, adopting systematic engineering philosophy, optimizing the design by integrating the platform with payload, seeking the organic coordination in the entire ship to achieve the excellent overall performances rather than a single advance area, thus making the overall performances of the second generation warships as advanced as those of the similar warships built by the world navies in 1990s.
Pan Jingfu has done a lot of pioneering work in the fields of new technologies, such as ship's command, control, combat information system and electromagnetic compatibility.  The above-mentioned work has promoted the development of science and technology, and pushed the technical progress of China’s shipbuilding industry.
