Abstract

He Mingyuan, chemist was  born in 1940 in Shanghai, China. graduated from Department of Applied Chemistry, China Textile University in 1961. In the period of 1980~1984  he was visiting scholar in Chemistry Department, Northwestern University, and Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Texas at Austin. He is now Chief Engineer of Research Institute of Petroleum Processing, China Petrochemical Corporation. His research work is mainly focused on achieving technological innovation in the field of catalytic materials for refining and petrochemicals based on novel scientific knowledge. About 96 Chinese patent applications have been filed and of which 45 patents have been assigned. A number of zeolite synthesis and modification methods have been invented and several series of refining catalysts have been developed. Thus he has made contributions in solving technical problems involved in heavy oil cracking, FCC gasoline octane enhancement, increasing FCC distillate production, new special gasoline production, etc. One of his achievements was elected one of the “Nation's Top Ten Scientific and Technological Achievements" in 1995. He has also won numerous awards such as Nation's Invention Awards, Nation's Scientific and Technological Progress Awards, Outstanding Chinese Patent Awards, SINOPEC Invention Awards, etc.  His papers have been published in world well-recognized journals such as Journal of American Chemical Society, Journal of Catalysis, etc. He was invited to give plenary lectures and invited lectures in a number of international meetings. He was the Chair of one of the Forums for 16th World Petroleum Congress, Member of Editorial Board of “Applied Catalysis A: General" published by Elsevier. In 2000, he has been appointed as Principal Scientist for one of the State Key Basic Research Programs related to green chemistry.
He was elected the academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1995.
