SHEN ZHIQUAN

Abstract

Shen Zhiquan, Female, the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, polymer chemistry scientist, She was born in Shanghai in 1931, graduated and received degree of Science Bachelor from Department of Chemistry of Shanghai University in 1952. She is professor of Departments of Chemistry and Polymer Science and Engineering of Zhejiang University. Shen was elected  Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1995.
Shen has been carrying out basic researches on polymer chemistry with emphasis on“ Coordination Polymerization Catalyzed by transition and Rare Earth metal ”for a quite long time. She was the first one in China to investigate “The cis-polybutadiene rubber by Trinary Nickel catalytic system” and had made a special and great contribution for the building of Chinese polybutadiene rubber industry, thus she gained the Special Class Prize of National Science and Technology Progress of China in 1985.
Professor Shen also has made a special and great contribution for the development of  “Rare Earth Coordination Polymerization" in world. She had carried out the study of  “The Characteristics of Rare Earth Coordination Catalysts and the cis-polydienes prepared therewith" in the years of 1960-1970 and gained the Second Class Prize of National Natural Science of China in 1982. Since 1980, Shen has been conducting the extended studies of “Exploitation of Rare Earth Catalysts in Polymer Synthesis" such as polymerizations of acetylenes, oxiranes, thiiranes, copolymerization of CO2 and oxirane ,lactide, lactone and cyclic carbonates and so forth.Shen won the Third Class Prize of National Natural Science of China in 1993 and several prizes of The State Educational Commission and Zhejiang Province. Shen has published more than 200 papers. She has been nominated as “Labour Model of National Education System" in 1995 and “Ten Most Distinguished Ladies in China" in 1998.
Professor Shen has attended more than ten international conferences giving lectures. She has visited more than 30 institutes and universities of more than ten countries.
