Abstract

Organic chemist, female. Born on septembes 24,1997, Fujian Province. Graduated from the Chemistry Department of Southwestern Associated University in 1942 and received M. S. and Ph. D. degrees from the University of Indiana, U. S. A., professor of Nankai University. She has been the vice chairman and chairman of the Institute of Elemento-Organic Chemistry of Nankai University, member of Chinese Chemical Society, vice president of the Chinese Agricultural Chemical Society. In 1980, she was elected member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. She has been teaching and doing research work on the synthesis of organic phosphorus compounds and the relationship of their structures and biological activities. Since 1960, she has invented a number of organic phosphorus herbicides and plant growth regulators. For examples, in 1960's, “Herbicide No. 1" was put into production, and in 1970's she synthesized more new herbicides, such as “Yanmaidi No 2", “Huangcaoling", “Ancaolin" and a new plant growth regulator No. 7841 which was patented and manufactured by cooperation with a chemical factory. Since 1980's her research work was focused on the synthesis of low coordinated phosphorus compounds, heterocyclic biologically active organic phosphorus compounds and their structure-activity relationship. Her outstanding contributions earned 2nd class Award of National Natural Science and 1st and 2nd class awards of Science and Technology from Ministry of Education. Among her inventions, Plant Growth Regulator 7841 and Herbicide Miekuolin won two patents.
Professor Chen Ruyu have published five books: “Organophosphorus Chemistry", “Agricultural Organophosphorus Chemistry", etc. and over 300 papers. Furthermore, she has directed and is directing 8 post-doctors and more than 50 graduate students including Ph. D. and M. S.
