AWARDEE OF PHYSICS PRIZE

SU ZHAOBING

Abstract

Su Zhaobing was born in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province in  1937. In 1958, He finished his undergraduate study from Peking University, and become a faculty in the department of physics in Peking University. He moved to institute of theoretical physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1980. He was elected as a member of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1991, now is a professor in the ITP-CAS. And he is also an adjunction professor in the Center for advanced study, Tsinghua University.
He participated in the pioneer study of the localization theory for electromagnetic waves in disorder media. The mobility edge, which was predicted by their theory, was verified by the recent experiment (D.S. Wiersma et al., Nature, 390, 671 (1997), where their corresponding paper is cited). In collaboration with Kuang-Zhao Chou, Bai-Lin Hao and Lu Yu, He participated in the development for a generating functional approach for the non-equilibrium quantum many-body systems. In collaboration with Lu Yu, he participated in the development for a self-consistent lattice-relaxation for a nonlinear excitations in the quasi-one-dimensional conducting polymers. He is also involved in the pioneer study for the physical effects of anormalies in condensed matter systems.
