YE ZHENGDA

Abstract

Ye Zhengda, an expert in aircraft design， was born on Aug. 22.1927 in Shanghai.  He studied in Moscow Aviation Institute in Sep. 1949 and was granted the Master degree of Engineer in Feb. 1955 by the Aircraft Design Department of this institute. He came back to China in Feb. 1995 and became a technologist and Chief Designer in Shenyang Aircraft Manufacturing Plant. In Apr. 1973， he was transferred as the vice director of No. 601 Research Institute of Aviation Industry Ministry in charge of technology and then became the vice-director of Aviation Research Institute. He was transferred as vice director of National Defense Industry Office under the State Council in December the same year. In 1982, he assumed the post vice-minister of Science and Technology Committee under COSTND and vice chairman of Judging Panel of State Invention Award, chairman of Judging Pancl of National Defense Science and Technology Progress Awards and National Defense Invention Awards, director of Aeronauties Association and vice-director of International Cooperation Working committce. From 1994, he became the adviser of Science and Technology Committee under COSTIND.In 1988. he was granted the rank of lieutenant general. In 1992, he was granted International Academician by Russian и　и　о　л　к　о　н　с　к　и　й Acrospace Institute and part-time professor by Northwest Industry University; In 1994, he was invited as research fellow by China Aerosnanstics Industry Corporation.
Ye Zhengda has been working in the field of acronautical industry as well as science and technology industry for national defense for more than 40 years and has contributed a lot to the cause of science and technology for national defense in China. He participated directly in the work of imitating three types of fighters during the carly phase of constructing aeronautical industry in China. As the vice director in charge of technology and the person in charge of technology, he partcipated in and led directly the development of F-8. which is the first high-altitude and high-speed fighter in China. When acting as leader, he still engaged in related scientific study and demonstrations, which provided important bases and guarantees for the development of our National Defense Science and Technology Cause.
Because of his contribution, Ye Zhengda won Class 2 prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, the Special Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Awards.
