SUN JINGLIANG

Abstract

Sun Jingliang, an expert in space launch vehicle system and liquid  rocket engine, was born in July 1930 in Ye County, Shandong Province.  He majored in aircraft and aeroengine technology in Rukovsky Military  Aeronautical Institute of former Soviet Union and graduated in 1958.  He  assumed the technical vice-director of Shanghai Rocket Engine  Research Institute, Chief Engineer, Vice-Chief Engineer of Shanghai  Bureau of Astronautics, Vice-Chief Designer of Long March-3 Launch  Vehicle, Director of Science &Technology Committee of SAST  (Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology), Chief Designer of  Long March-4 Launch Vehicle.  Now he is the Vice-Chief Designer of  711 Project and the Chief Designer of Long March-2D Launch Vehicle.
Sun Jingliang has been engaged in liquid rocket engine and launch  vehicle development for a long time.  He headed the development and  improvement of several types of liquid rocket engines, creatively solved  a series of key technological obstacles of combustion instability in high  thrust liquid rocket engines.  On his post of Long March-3 Vice-Chief  Designer, Sun put forward a creative whole rocket dynamic system flow  testing scheme and headed the implementation of the testing, thus  surmounted the technical difficulty of longitudinal coupled vibration in  large launch vehicle development.  On his post of the Chief Designer of  Long March-4 and Long March-2D, Sun directed the development of  the cost-effective launch vehicles with high performance and high  reliability.  These launchers have been used for several space launches  with full successes, making remarkable contribution to the space  undertaking of our county.
Sun Jingliang has been granted the National Prizes for Science &  Technology Progress and the Prize of National Science Congress for  several times.  He trained a legion of astronautical backbones and  pioneers of scientific disciplines.  He published many scientific papers in  both domestic and international journals and at scientific symposiums.  Sun Jingling is one of the first national class experts with prominent   contribution and an academician of China Academy of Engineering. He  is also an academician of ISA (International Space Academy).
