ZHU YAOXIAO

Abstract

Prof. Zhu Yaoxiao, an expert of metallurgy and matrerial, was born in Zhejiang in 1933 and graduated from the Beijing Institute of Steel and Iron in 1957.  From then, He has been working in Institute of Metal Research of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
He has been engaged in the study of superalloys more than forty years and is one of the pioneers on the cast superalloys.  It's he who is in charge of the study of the first superalloy for casting blades and the first cast hot-corrosion resistant superalloy in China. He is the inventor of the Low Segregation Alloys Technology awarded the Award in Real Materials Innovation by the international society of materials research. This gives impetus to the development of alloys.  With this technology, more than  twenty types of alloy are invented with good hot-resistant, corrosion-resistant and erosion-resistant properties.  Some have been used in aero-engines, boat turbines, nuclear power station, chemical industry, construction materials and transportation. Recently, he firstly put forward the technology of heat-conduct enforcement with twisted plates, which is very important for the development of petrochemical industry and the improvement of the energy shortage.
He also plays an important role in the industrialization of the low segregation alloy technology. National Engineering Research Center for High Performance      Homogenized Alloys, Research Center for Special Alloy Tubes and Sannai      Corporation were founded with the support of the National Planning and Developing      Committee. He is the manager of Sannai Corporation, which produced 41 million      RMB of total output value and 16 million RMB of total profit and tax in three years.      In order to fulfill the need of the low segregation products, the National Planning      developing Committee will invest 73 million RMB to establish a industry-proving      base, which will produce up to 100 million RMB of output value and 30 million RMB      of total profit and tax.
He is innovative in mind, strict in study and great in achievement.  He was awarded five items of international and national award and more than ten items of ministry and  Academy award.
