LIU JIE

Abstract

Liu Jie was born on November 22, in 1943 in Shanghai. He was graduated as a postgraduate from the Department of Steel rolling and Mechanics, Beijing Iron and Steel Coliege, Now, he is the chairman and president of Anshan Iron and Steel (Group) complex (Angang for short), a senior engineer with a doctor degree, an academician of the China, Engineering Academy, a delegate to the National People's Cogress and an alternate commissioner of the Fifteenth CPC Central Committee.
Mr Liu has been involved for a long time in research and development of computer control system and math model for metallurgical industry Form 1978 to 1979, as the first excuter, he charged himself with the math model development for the hot and cold rolling of steel made in Wugang, saving RMB 34.46 million yuan each year. This achievement won the third prize of the 1985 State Science and Technology Progress.
He tookcharge of the rolling force math. model research for the finishing rolling of the Hot Strip Mill of Wugang form 1980 to 1984 and completed it with success in substitution for the previous Japanese one, creating an economic benefit of RMB 3.1 million yuan each year. In the project he was the first excuter and it won the first prize of the 1985 Science and Technology Progress of the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry of China and the third prize of the 1987 State Science and Technology Progress. He was in charge of the computer process control model research which is part of the important project i.e. the new technology development and new ideas creation for the 1.7m mill system of Wugang from 1981 to 1989. The project won the special class prize of 1989 Science and Technology Progress of the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry of China and the special class prize of the 1990 State Science and Technology Progress. Mr Liu was the second excuter of the project and the first excuter of the project's automation system.
Mr Liu as the first excuter was in charge of the project of computer control new system development for the 1.7m Hot Strip Mill of Wugang from 1989 to 1993. which won the special class prize of the 1985 Science and Technology Progress of the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry of China and the frist prize of the 1996 State Science and Technology Progress.
Mr Liu as the second excuter, was in charge of research and development of computer control and drive for the Hot Strip Mill of Taiyuan Iron and Steel Company (Taigang for short) in 1997, which won the second prize of the 1997 State Science and Technology Progress.
Mr Liu wrote and published over ten specialized articles, treatises and technical reports, extended assistance and direction to many postgraduates of Dr. or master degree and turned out a number of engineering and technical talents.
