Abstract

Shen Yinchu, a specialist of biochemical technology, was born in Sheng Zhou     county of Zhejiang Province on July 7, 1938. He graduated from Fu Dan University in the Department of Biochemistry in 1962. In the same year, he entered the post-graduate course at Fu Dan Genetic Research Institute.  Since 1964, he has been working in the Shanghai Pesticide Research Institute and Shanghai Research Center of Bio-chemical     Technology of Ministry of Chemical Industry.  He is now the vice director of the Biochemical Engineering Society of China.  He was elected as a member of the Chinese     Academy of Engineering in 1997.
Prof. Shen Yin Chu has long been engaging in the research and development of Bio-chemical engineering and Bio-pesticide, and has made important contributions.
During 1968-1978, he discovered and developed Jinganmycin which is the first kind of new bio-pesticide of high effective and safe to environment. By the research, over 30 factories were built up.
Afterwards he successfully developed a few bio-mitecide and bio-insecticide, which became main bio-pesticides in China, and achieved great economic benefits.
In 1980s, he and his co-operators accomplished research to produce acrylamide by microbial catalytic method and established the first plant used bio-technology to produce basic chemical material.  This achievement created a precedent for bio-catalytic technology applied in the field of basic chemical industry in China.
He won 3 items of first class Award of Shanghai Scientific and Technology Progress, one for the first class Award of Progress in Science and Technology of Ministry and one for the third National Award of Invention.
