CHENG GUOLIANG

Abstract

Cheng Guoliang male, born on February 1937 in Ningpo of Zhejiang Province, graduated from Qingdao Medical College Medical Department in 1962 , had joined the Navy right after graduation and was appointed to be a surgeon in the 401st Hospital, General Surgery Department.  In 1977, he was sent to be a fellow in Hand Surgery and Microsurgery Departments of Ji Shui Tan Hospital in Beijing for one year. In 1985, The Hand Surgery Center of the Chinese People's Liberation Army was founded in The 401st Hospital and Dr. Cheng was appointed to be the chief of the center. In 1987, he got the chief doctor technical post and was promoted to be the vice president of the hospital in 1994 and still remained the chief post of Hand Surgery Department simultaneously.  In 1996, he was invited to be a visiting professor by The Fourth Military Medical University.  Now he is the vice chairman of Society of Hand Surgery of the Chinese Medical Association and a member of standing committee of the Chinese Microsurgery Society of Chinese Medical Association too.
Dr. Cheng Guoliang has indulged himself in chinical surgery work for 36 years      and made outstanding achievements in Hand Surgery and Microsurgery.  The most      prominent achievements are in the field of replantation and reconstruction of the      fingers, such as replantation of distal segment of finger, digital replantation in children, replantation of rotationally and avulsively amputated thumb, bilateral multi-digit replantation and toe-to-hand reconstruction with much break through improvements which attained the advanced world level.  The innovations and improvements in the technic of reconstruction of thumb and finger by toe tissue transplantation have made contributions in promoting the reconstruction technic in China. The survival rate of 98.9% in 515 patients with 642 digits reconstructed is the topmost universal record. Reconstruction of hand function by transplantation of the unreplantable fingers to the forearm stump represents the well combination of Orthopedics, Hand Surgery and Plastic Surgery technics and this technic has been accepted and popularized in clinical work worldwidely.This technic is a characteristic example of our nation's Hand Surgery academic standard.
Dr. Cheng Guoliang is serious, honest and energetic in teaching and has fostered      more than 420 resident and fellow surgeons of our nation in this specialty.  He has      edited two monographs and participated in writing related chapters in books edited by renown scholars and also has published 66 theses both in domestic and international      medical journals.  He has received two second class National Awards on Science and Technology Advancement, two first class Military Awards on Science and Technology Advancement and three second class Military Awards on Science and Technology Advancement. In 1995, he was bestowed the Important “Eighth Five Years Plan” Awards of Science and Technology by Rear Support Headquarters of CPLA. In 1984, he was nominated as “The Model Military Doctor On Scaling Peak of Medical Technology”. In 1987, he was ranked “Hero and Model of The Military Poces”. In 1990, he was approved by the National Bureau of Personnel to be “Youth And Middle Age Specialist With Outstanding Contribution”.
