TU SHANCHENG

Abstract

Tu Shancheng, satellite control specialist, was born in August  1923,  in Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province. He graduated with B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Utopia University of Shanhai in July 1945. He obtained graduate degrees of M.E.E. (1951) and Ph. D. (1953) from Cornell University of U.S., and served as Instructor and Assistant Professor there until 1956. He returned to China in 1956 to join the task of national construction of the motherland. Longtime he engaged in the research and development of control system design and implementation of satellites and spacecraft, made special contribution to the design and development of Chinas first geostationary experimental telecommunication satellite“Dong-Fang-Hong Ⅱ”. He was chief scientist for Astronautics of the National High Technology Research and Development Project (“863”Project) from 1987-1991. He was elected a member of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) in 1987, and a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) in 1994.At present, he is a consultant to the Chinese Academy of Space Technology and an adjunct professor of Control System Engineering at several universities.
