YAO FUSHENG

Abstract

Dr Yao fusheng, a steam turbine expert, was born in April 1932 in Shanghai and graduated from the Department of Shipbuilding of Shanghai Jiaotong University in 1995. In the same year, he went to Politechnika Gdanska in Poland for further study, being a postgraduate in the field of thermal turbomachine. During this time, he advanced a new criterion of optimality for design steam turbine twisted blade. He got his doctorate there in 1962.
From 1962 to 1968, Dr Yao engaged in the field of aerodynamic of turbine cascade. He put forward a new theoretical method for calculation flow losses in cascade and confirmed by aerodynamic testing in 1963. In 1964.Dr Yao developed a general theoretical formuia for calculation exciting forces in steam turbine blades. In the middle of 1964, He created a novel method for drawing long twisted blade and CAD for design long twisted blade in 1965.
Since 1968, Dr Yao moved to the Dongfang Steam Turbine Works, Sinchuan Province, where he held posts as director of lab, vice chief engineer of Works respectively. In 1979, he was apointed as the chief engineer of Dongfang Steam Turbine Works by Ministry of Machinary Industry. He took charge of the research design and construction of Chinese first noval 300 MW large steam turbine set with 1000 mm long twisted blades, which was designed and constructed on Works self-reliance.
Since 1984, Dr Yao moved again to the Ministry of Machinery Industry in Beijing.
In 1993, Dr Yao was appointed as the vice president of Sci & Tech Committee of Mi-nistry of Machinery Industry.
So far, Dr Yao has published over 50 paper in various journals. Dr Yao is the awardee of many significant prize and houors.
In May 1994, Dr Yao was selected as a member of the Chinese Academy of Enginee-ring. He was also selected as vice president of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society.
Dr Yao was invited to be a concurrent post professor of 11 universities in China, such as Jiaotong U., Tsinghua U., Zhejiang U., etc.
