Abstract

Prof. He Duohui, a particle accelerator expert, was born on February 21, 1939, in Yilong, Sichuan Province. He graduated from the Modern Physics Department of University of Science and Technology of China in 1964, and has been working at the same university since then. He served successively as the vice chairman of Modern Physics Department from 1973 through 1977, the technical director of National Synchrotron Radiation  Laboratory Project from 1978 through 1991, the vice director of National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory from 1992 through 1996. He is now the vice chairman of the Academic Committee of University of Science and Technology of China. Prof. He was elected member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1995.
As one of the pioneers in synchrotron radiation field in China, Prof. He has made valuable contributions to the development of synchrotron radiation facilities and to traning qualified scientists. He and his colleagues proposed the development of Chinas first dedicated synchrotron radiation facility-Hefei synchrotron radiation source in 1977. After the approval of the project he was in charge of the R&D, design, construction and commissioning of the light source from 1978 through 1991. The facility was completed in 1991, and users operation started in 1992. The performance of this light source proved to be quite good. For this Prof. He was awarded the special class award of Academia Sinica Prize of Progress in Science and Technology in 1992 and the frist class Award of the National Prize of Progress in Science and Technology in 1995.
