Abstract

Mr. Liu Daxiang, an aero engine expert, was born in Qi Dong County of Hunan Province on 14th October, 1937. He is now taking the post of chief engineer of Gas Turbine Estabishment (GTE) subordinate to Aviation Industries of China (AVIC). Mr. Liu Daxiang has been successively holding the posts of the chief engineer for one national key project and three large science & technology pre-research projects of national defense and being the main person in charge of the technologies of all these projects.
In the construction of the national key project-Altitude Test Facilities(ATF), Mr. Liu Daxiang was appointed to be the vice director for the design and research laboratory of ATF in 1974 and later was promoted as director. He has solved a large quantity of complicated technical problems. He has presided and completed not only the design and commissioning of some major facilities, automatic measurement & control systems but also the altitude simulation technology research and the overall-performance-joint commissioning of ATF. After the correlation test with the AFT in Russia, it has reached the same performance level of the oversea facilities. This turns China into the fifth country that possesses such large scale ATF after USA, Russia, UK and France. This project was chosen as one of the“10 Major Achievement Prizes of National Science & Technology of 1995”and a special prize of science & technology progress was honorably awarded for it by the Chinese Government.
In the pre-research of the“High Performance Thrust System”and“Advanced Core Engine Engineering Development”, Mr. Liu Daxiang assumed the posts of both chief engineer and chief designer. Under his leadership, over 50 research subjects have been completed. Mr. Liu Daxiang has presided and completed the overall scheme design and the engineering design. In core engine ground and altitude tests, a lot of key technologies were solved. This made the core engine smoothly hitting the target and great contributions to wards aero-engine design by China herself. A first class Prize and a second class Prize of Science & Technology Progress were separately awarded for the project by the ministry and the Chinese government.
Due to pursuing his studies with strict attitude, being strong in theoretical basis and rich in engineering experience. Mr. Liu Daxiang has been a committeeman of the Science & Technology Committee of the National Defense, the head of the Expert Advisory Group in Conventional Power Plant. Besides, he concurrently holds the posts of professor, Doctor tutor for Beijing University of Aero. & Astro., Nanjing University of Aero. & Astro., and Northwestern Polytechnic University. Mr. Liu Daxing has written 60 treatises. He has been 3 times awarded with achievement prizes by the Chinese Government and a few times by the Ministry. He has honorably won first class merit three times at the ministry level and has been awarded the titles of“National Advanced Worker”,“Advanced Science & Technology Worker of Sichuan Province”,and “Model Worker and Model-worker's Pacesetter of AVIC”. In 1995, Mr. Liu Daxiang was eclected to be an academician of the Academy of Engineering of China.
