Li Dadong

Li Dadong, born in beijing in 1938, an expert in petroleum processing, is one of the exploiters in clean fuel production in China. He was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1994.
He was the president of RIPP during Set. 1991 to Dec. 2003 and has been the president of the academic association of RIPP since Jan. 2004.
He is mainly engaged in research and development of petroleum refining catalysts and processes and presided successfully in 1980s at the development of high active hydrofining catalyst RN-1 which was at the worldleading level at the time. The commercialization of RN-1 catalyst solved successfully the difficult problems of processing the secondary processed distillates in China. RN-1 was exported to a refinery in Italy in 1994. It was a milestone event for SINOPEC to export the hydroprocessing catalyst outside China for the first time.
Under his leadership, hydrocracking technology at medium pressure developed by RIPP has been successfully applied in many refineries and solved the problems in processing heavier crude oils and lack of feed sources for the production of ethylene and aromatics.
For 40 years since RN-1 hydrofining catalyst commercialization, a series of hydroprocessing catalysts and processes technologies of hydrofining, hydrotreating and hydrocracking with the international advanced level by his guidance and organization have been developed. Up to now, 84 catalysts among 12 series catalysts developed in RIPP have been applied in 287 units in China and foreign countries with enormous economical and social benefits.
Among all fruitful results, six were awarded first and second prize in national science and technology progress, or first and second prize of Sinopec Science and Technology Progress, respectively. In addition, 159 patents to Prof. Li were applied in China, among which 99 were authorized. One monograph on hydroprocesses and catalysts was published and 139 papers were published on different major journals in China and abroad. 22 students have got Ph.D.under his supervision.
