Tian Hongqi, female, was born in Lushan City of Henan Province in December 1959. She is a Professor of Traffic & Transportation Engineering of Central South University and a Yangtse River Scholar of Ministry of Education of China. At the same time, she is member of the Eleventh CPPCC National Committee and the vicepresident of Central South University. She received her Bachelor Degree in 1981 and Master Degree in 1988 from Changsha Railway University, and PhD Degree in 1999 from China Aerodynamics Research & Development Center. She has been doing research and teaching in Changsha Raiway University (Central South University) since she started to work in 1982. She majors in Rail Traffic Engineering mainly including Train Aerodynamics and Train Multibody Coupling Crash Dynamics. Her excellent academic achievements are given as follows: (1) To solve the technical problems of train safety caused by aerodynamics, she established the research sytem of basic theories, technology developments and engineering applications for Chinese rail transit aerodynamics, including developing the biggest and most advanced train dynamic model experimental system in the world, presented the aerodynamic online real car experimental technologies, shape structure optimization and calculation simulation methods, etc. (2) To solve the technical problems of multivehicle coupling crash accidents, she firstly presented the safety protection technology, absorbingvehicle design method and safety evaluation criteria for trains, and developed the component collision experimental system. (3) To protect the running trains under strongwind condition, she firstly developed the strongwind train safety protection systems for QinghaiTibet and Xinjiang Railways. Based on her outstanding research results, she published two academic books and was authorized eleven Chinese invention patents, which have been all used in Chinese Highspeed Raiway. And she has been awarded a series of academic prizes and honours, including National Science & Technology Progress Prizes (One time specialclass, two times secondclass), Hunan provincial Science & Technology Progress Prizes (seven times), National Outstanding Science & Technology Worker, Guanghua Scientific Reward of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Zhan Tianyou Railway Science & Technology Achievement Award of China Association for Science & Technology, Guangzhao Science & Technology Award and Outstanding Expert Award of Hunan Province. Besides, she has been the supervisor of three postdoctoral fellows and twentyfive doctoral students. Her research group has also been given a series of prizes and hunours, including National Firstclass Key Discipline (Traffic and Transportation Engineering), the First National Excellent Professional Group, Key Lab of Traffic Safety on Track and Yangtse River Scholar Innovative Team of the Ministry of Education of China.
