Zhou Ziquan

Zhou Ziquan, born in Wuhan of Hubei Province on November 11th, 1940, graduated from the Northwestern Polytechnical University in 1964. Since then, he has been working in the areas of flight test and research.
Over the decades, he accomplished more than 30 sciencetechnology research projects, won 4 National Prizes for Progress in Science and Technology, including one outstanding award, one Major Award, 2 Second Prizes.
In the past twenty years, he won over 10 provincial and ministerial level merits of honor, including National May 1 Labor Medal, Aviation Gold Award, AeronauticAerospace “YueGui”Lifetime Contribution Award, etc.
Main technical contributions are as follows:
1.J10 Flight Test
As the chief flight test engineer of project J10, he lead his flight test team ,conquered more than 30 new technologies of flight test, including flybywire flight control, aeroservoelasticity, inlet/engine compatibility, etc.; developed numbers of key flight test equipment /systems including new flutter excitation system FES, advanced onboard testing and ground monitoring system, etc.; developed a fleet of modern testing research aircraft, including radar research aircraft, ejection escape research aircraft, etc.
Flight test safety of J10 is obviously better than most of the foreign aircraft in same class, most of which suffered crashes during their flight test, on the contrast, J10 never had any accident. Flight test of J10 is a significant milestone in the history of Chinese flight test technology.
2. Inflight Simulation Technology
The inflight simulator can greatly change its dynamic performance with the VSS flybywire flight control system. Zhou Ziquan with his research team, have developed two successive generations of VSA and applied them into flight research since the late 1970s. The first one, BW-1with longitudinal VSS. IFSTA, the second variable stability aircraft of 3DOF. These two experimental aircraft played significant roles for the inflight simulation of aircraft, advanced technical research, pilots training, etc.
3. Flight Simulation Technology
As director of the key laboratory, Zhou Ziquan has been leading his research team, developing a series of ground flight simulators including SB-6, SB-100, SB-300 and FS-10, etc. and applying them to flight researches since 1960s.The SB-6 is first flight simulator and first “Iron Bird” test rig;The SB-100 is first aircombat simulator with large screen.The SB-300 is first simulator with computer generated image (CGI) in China. The high AOA flight simulation research conducted on the advanced flight simulator FS-10 in the recent years.
He published 5 monographs, namely: Modern Flight Simulation Technique, Inflight Simulator, Modern Aviation, Guidance, and Measurement and Control Technology, Flight Test of J-10 Aircraft and Flight Test Engineering.
