AWARDEE OF TECHNOLOGICAL SCIENCES PRIZE

ZHONG JUE

Zhong Jue, professor of College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Central South University, member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering,is an expert working in manufacturing field. She was born in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province,China in September 1936. She graduated from the University of Science and Technology of Beijing(formerly known as Institute of Iron and Steel of Beijing) in 1960 majoring in metallurgy machinery, then she has been working as a teacher and researcher at Central South University formerly as Central South Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. She once served as the department head, dean and now is the director of a research institute. She became professor in 1985, she was elected the academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1995. Now she is vice-director of the Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Education, member of Expert Committee of Department of Materials and Engineering Sciences of NSFC, Executive Director of China Nonferrous Metals Society, etc.
Prof. Zhong has been engaging herself in the research of the basic theories and modern technologies in the field of mechanical design, material processing, advanced manufacturing and so on. She has been leading several major research projects such as the National Key International Research and Development of China (973).She has made creative and outstanding achievements as follows:
She has proposed the new principle of electromagnetic field roll casting in the production of aluminum strip, invented the key equipment, created the key technology, equipment and processing of thin-gauge high speed roll casting, promoting the production of roll casting to a higher level, and awarded the 2nd class prize of National Invention Prize. She also proposed the theory of closing force flow in the drive of rolling mill, the principle and technology of pseudo-single roll driving which solved the problem that the first introduced hot strip mill in our country could not work normally, and the fatal malfunction problem of the similar equipments in other industry department, awarded the first level prize of National Science and Technology Progress. She proposed the design theories and methods for complicated mechanical and electrical system based on the coupling analysis. She led the research of key technology and design of major modernized technology reconstruction of aluminum process equipment, impelling the aluminum material industry of our country to the international advanced level, and providing the scientific and technological basis to ensure important military industry product applications, awarded the 2nd class prize of National Science and Technology Progress. She proposed the mechanism of lubrication in the plastic process of metals with interface micro-structure and micro-scale mechanics as its core, and explored the series lubrication technologies of nonferrous metals process which has been widely used in the industry.
