AWARDEE OF TECHNOLOGICAL SCIENCES PRIZE
WANG TIANRAN
Mr.Wang Tianran, expert in robotics and largescale industrial automationsystem，was born in March 1943 in Hailun Country of Heilongjiang Province. Mr. Wang was graduated from the Automatic Control Department of Harbin Institute of Technology in 1967, majoring in computer science. From then on, he has been working in Shenyang Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and has conducted his research for nearly three years on artificial intelligence and robotics in Carnegie Mellon University of the United States of America. As a professor and Ph. D. supervisor, Mr. Wang is now the director of the National Engineering Research Center on Robotics and the chairman of the Academic Board of Shenyang Institute of Automation. Mr. Wang was elected the academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2003, and has been honored the titles of the National Young and Middle aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions, the National Excellent Scientific and Technical Personnel, and the Outstanding Professional and Technical Talent.
Over a long period of time, Mr. Wang devotes his efforts to the research and application of robotics and large scale industrial automation system.
In the research and development of robot control system, Mr. Wang puts forward the networked and open indus trial robotic control system, successfully leads his R&D team to develop various industrial robot products and realizes their industrialization. In the research on FFbusbased distributed control system, he puts forward the control system with threelayered module structure. In the research on the architecture of intelligent robot, Mr. Wang advances the thought of hierarchic architecture. All these show that Mr. Wang has a very strong ability to master the hightech frontiers.
Mr. Wang has won eight prizes for his research achievements from the Ministries and Provinces. Among them, there are five prizes with Mr. Wang as the first winner, including two National Scientific and Technological Progress Prizes of the second class, one Scientific and Technological Progress Prize of the Chinese Academy of Sciences of the special class, one Scientific and Technological Progress Prize of the Chinese Academy of Sciences of the first class, one Scientific and Technological Progress Prize of the Chinese Academy of Sciences of the second class.
