LI JIAN

Li Jian, an expert in wood science and technology, was born in 1943 and graduated in 1966 from Northeast Forestry College,majoring in Chemical Engineering of Forest Products. From 1966 to 1978 he worked as an engineer and manager for paper production. From 1978 to 1987 he became a student again and got a master degree and then Ph.D. From 1989 to 1990 he performed cooperative research in Wales University. He has been engaged in teaching and research in the field of wood science and technology from 1981. Prof. Li Jian is now the president of Northeast Forestry University and director of Wood Science and Technology National Key Subject, Northeast Forestry University. He is also the president of Wood Science Society of China Society of Forestry, director of Forest Engineering Committee of Ministry of Education, the caller of Subject Senate of Academic Degree Committee of State Council, and National Expert of Excellent Achievment.
Professor Li Jian has long been the leader of research and education in wood science and technology and contributed much to construction and development of the subject. He has many achievements in wood protection, biological and environmental characteristics of wood. He has been in charge of more than 10 research projects of national and provincial fund. He is now in charge of 6 research projects of “863,” National Natural Science Foundation of China, and other national or provincial projects. He has published 21 books and 220 papers. He has gotten a National Technology Invention Prize (second-class), a National Science and Technology Development Prize (second-class), a provincial Science and Technology Prize (first-class), a provincial Great Scientific and Technological Profits Prize, 5 provincial Science and Technology Development Prize (second-class) ,and 6 patents. He is the adviser of 30 doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers, one of them got the honor of National 100 Excellent Doctoral Dissertations. As the subject advisor, he lead his subject team entered the National Key Subject.
