AWARDEE OF MATHEMATICS AND MECHANICS PRIZE

DU QINGHUA

Prof. Du Qinghua, a mechanics scientist and mechanical educationist, was born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province,in August 1919. He completed his bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering Department of Shanghai Jiaotong University in 1940. He got two master degrees, respectively in Mechanical Engineering Department of Stanford University in 1948 and Aeronautical Engineering Department of Harvard University in 1949. He got his PH.D.of Engineering Mechanics in Stanford University in 1951. After he came back to China in June 1951, he worked as a professor and director of mechanical teaching and research group in Peking University.He came to Tsinghua University as a professor in Department of Engineering Mechanics in 1952. He was also a professor in Shanghai Jiaotong University, Xian Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University and an honorary professor in Nanjing Aeronautics and Astronautics University.
He has been an editorinchief of Journal of Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica, a board member of International Journal of Engineering Analysis with Boundary Element and International Journal of Applied Mechanics Review. He was a member of academic committee of international organization ISBE, and has been a member of advisory committee of International Boundary Element Conference many times. He was elected as an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) in 1997. He has published more than 40 scientific research papers and 6 famous mechanics monographs. He has accomplished many national important research projects. He has obtained first award and second award from National Educational Committee of China.
