FU JIAMO

Fu Jiamo,Organic geochemist and environmental geochemist. Born in Shanghai, in May 1933. Graduated from Beijing College of Geology in 1956 and finished graduate studies in Institute of Geology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1961. Research professor, Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
In 1966, Fu found China’s first organic geochemical laboratory (State Key Laboratory of Organic Geochemistry). He systematically generalized the theory of formation and evolution of oil and gas in marine carbonate rocks, including the evaluation indexes and methods of oil and gas. He expanded and enriched the continental oil-forming theory. He first discovered in Chinese non-marine sediments and crude oils more than 20 new molecular markers such as botryococcus alkanes and sulfurous organic compounds. In 1993, Fu found Guangdong Key Laboratory of Environment and Resources, conducting major research efforts on biogeochemistry and control methods of toxic organic pollutants, such as persistant organic pollutants (POPs) and endocrine disruption compounds (EDs) in the environments.
