HAO BAILIN

Abstract

Hao Bailin, physicist, was born in Beijing on 26 June 1934. He graduated with Deploma with Honour from Department of Physics and Mathematics, Kharkov State University, former USSR, in 1959. He was elected the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1980 and the academician of the Third World Academy of Science in 1995. Presently he is a Research Professor at the Institute of Theoretical Physics, CAS. He is the Vice-President of the Chinese Post-Doctoral Foundation and a Standing Member of the Board of Trustees of the Tan Kah Kee International Society. He has been conducting research in theoretical and Computational physics,  nonlinear science and theoretical life science. He has published more than 130 research papers and 11 books in Chinese and English, covering various topics in condensed matter theory, statistical physics, power network and antenna radiation field calculation, analysis of seismic activity of Northern China, knowledge engineering system in group theory, chaotic and symbolic dynamics, DNA and protein sequence analysis. His latest English monograph was “Applied Symbolic Dynamics and Chaos" (1998) and Chinese book was “Handbook in Bioinformatics" (2000). He served as Director of the Institute of Theoretical Physics (1990~1994), Coeditor-in-Chief of Acta Physica Sinica, Editor-in-Chief of Chinese Physics Letters. Hh was the Chairman of the IUPAP 19th International Conference on Statistical Physics in  1995. He received the CAS Award for Important Achievement in Science and Technology for theoretical work on magnetic-coated antennas in 1978, the CAS Award for Progress in Science and Technology for work on three-dimensional lattice statistical model in 1987. For work on applied symbolic dynamics he and his collaborators received the CAS Award for Achievement in Natural Science (First Rank) in 1992 and the National Award in Natural Science (Second rank) in 1993. For work on unified formalisms for equilibrium and non-equilibrium systems he and coworks received the CAS Award for Achievement in Natural Science (First Rank) in 1999 and the National Award in Natural Science (Second rank) in 2000.
