ZHOU LISAN

Abstract

Prof.Zhou Lisan,a geographer,was born in Hangzhou,Zhejiang Province in September,1910.He graduated from the Department of Geography in Zhongshan University in July,1933.From 1946 to 1947,Prof.Zhou engaged in advanced studies in research institute in Wisconsin University in America.Today,Prof.Zhou is a research professor of Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology,Academia Sinica;honorary president;academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS);vice director of Scientific Advisor Group in “the National Agricultural Planning Committee”.Prof.Zhou mainly engaged in the research of economical geography,he was one of the first person to go in for comprehensive survey,agricultural planning and national condition researches of our county.In the 1950's,Prof.Zhou originated and took charge of the comprehensive investigation of Xinjiang as a vice director and director successively.It was the first time to investigate agricultural resources of Xinjiang region comprehensively.His survey result and relevant suggestion is now still one of the important references to build Xinjiang.In the 1960’s,Prof.Zhou took charge of the agricultural planning in Jiangsu Province and region,he put forward the ways to divide agricultural regions and to make rice to increase,which brought into good play for directing agriculture production in the light of local conditions.In the beginning of 1980's,Prof.Zhou took charge of agricultural comprehensive planning of our county,finished “Chinese agricultural comprehensive planning”,put forward the suggestions to adjust agriculture distribution according to the agriculture production division law.At the end of 1980's,Prof.Zhou set up a new field on the research of national condition,he organized and guided “the Research Group of National Condition Analyses of CAS”,made a system study to Chinese national condition from the point of population,resources,environment and economical development.From then on,the group have finished four national condition reports,which have provided scientifical proof for centralize guidance of central authorities and arisen wide interest of the inland and outland researchers.Since 1980's,the scientifical research items organized by Prof.Zhou got national first and second prize of Science and Technology Progress,first prize of Science and Technology Progress of CAS,second prize of Natural Science of CAS respectively.
